tis the season
Dec. 6th, 2010 05:59 pmThis morning the weather included bright sunshine and snow flurries at the same time. Sadly, no rainbow--or would that be a snowbow?
Shopping online takes some of the stress out of gift-giving. There's only so much retail madness I can handle in any given month, and last Saturday at the mall with my daughter put me right up against my limit, though unfortunately I still have more to buy. Ideally, I should buy gifts throughout the year and save them up, but I'm too impatient to not give them right away...or I forget where I hid them. Last year I found (and gave!) gifts I'd bought two years earlier! Oh, so that's where I put that!
At the same time, there's a distinct feeling of glee when you find something the recipient will utterly love, and you picture the look on their faces when they open it.
What is your favorite thing about the holidays? Tell me.
I think mine may just be sitting around after Christmas dinner, relaxing in front of the fire, full and tired happy, surrounded by my family and friends, and then later, lying on the sofa, looking at the Christmas tree. Or maybe it's cooking, four or five of us in the kitchen putting together the food and drinking red wine and laughing; it always makes me think of my grandmother's kitchen, with her bustling around in her apron, and how wonderful it smelled.
