Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
This is among my favorite songs. Simple, thoughtful, beautiful.
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
Why is religion twisted to justify hatred and killing, why 'love of country' extend only to one's own borders, and insist on distrusting everything and everyone beyond them? We can imagine more, we can be better than that.
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Dreams have value and power, but only when they make us believe in something different and better.
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
They call this time of year "the season of giving." Can we celebrate it year round? Every day?
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
Rest in peace, John Lennon. You've been gone thirty years, but your song still echoes and soars.
