Last weekend was exactly the break I needed--two and a half days in Maine with my husband, at a charming inn on the coast. Nice room with jacuzzi, gas fireplace, and a view of the sea; great restaurant with fresh seafood; wonderful pub with open fireplace, where we had an interesting conversation on Friday (a 75-year-old retired entrepreneur who described how Betty Friedan changed her life) and live music on Saturday (two fairly talented middle aged guys who looked like they'd been playing together for years and were still enjoying the hell out of it). We wandered the shops of Portsmouth, NH on Saturday afternoon, where I found myself a splendid new hat, and AHM bought a stuffed bear for our nephew-to-be (arriving in May). Lots of lying around relaxing and reading and...all in all, a good way to celebrate our 22nd anniversary.

This week has been all about getting my Sandwich Generation membership card stamped. Between ferrying my children to and fro, there was a fair bit of ferrying my MIL and assorted paperwork back and forth, as the plan to move her into assisted living lurches forward. I did get a few things done for myself: gym time, some work on the website, some coaching, and a riding lesson.

Last night, we went to see Rango, an animated comic western about a lizard having an existential crisis and saving a small town. Lots of hat-tips to various movies tossed in, a fairly funny script, gorgeous visuals combined for a fun evening, then we went out to dinner with old friends, and I indulged in a strawberry margarita, which was yummy.

Not overly exciting, but such is my life. And look!

New hat!
